The candidate assessment stage is a scrupulous, extremely important stage of the adoption procedure that requires thorough preparation for successful completion.
At this stage, you will interact with two public authorities: the Children’s Service (due diligence and registration of candidates) and the Social Service Centre (training and psychological preparation of candidates).
Assessment steps
Have the date of examination of living conditions approved by professionals from the Children’s Service. The successful outcome of this step will be the report on the examination of living and household conditions.
Obtain a referral to training for adopting parent candidates. You may need to wait for several weeks to several months. The Children’s Service will inform you of available training courses. It is recommended that you are proactive and find out the date of future training courses, the duration and the format in advance, so that you can plan your participation.
Complete the training for candidates. The successful outcome of training will be a course certificate
Remember that the assessment stage does not oblige you to complete the adoption process. It is a stage where professionals assess your potential, and give recommendations on your readiness to proceed. You have an opportunity to take a conscious decision about your intention and resources.
